EVENT ADVISORY

Emerge Maine To Honor Speaker Sara Gideon at Women Of The Year Event

Augusta, Maine—Emerge Maine, the state’s premier organization for recruiting and training women to run for Democratic office, will host a reception to honor Woman of the Year award winner and Speaker of the House Sara Gideon (Class of 2012) and Rising Star Award Winner Molly Bogart (Class of 2015) on June 4, 2019 at 6:00pm at the Governor Hill Mansion in Augusta.

The organization is dedicated to supporting and promoting Maine’s current Democratic women leaders and training the next generation of political candidates to run for office. To reaffirm this commitment, each year the organization honors extraordinary women who have made significant political, business and social contributions to the state.

Speaker Gideon is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of  Representatives and her second term as Speaker of the House. Her legislative efforts have worked to support Maine families working toward financial independence, strengthened resources to help combat the opioid crisis, and promoted broadband access and renewable energy sources to expand Maine’s digital and clean energy economies. Sara was the recipient of the Emerge Rising Star Award in 2015. Speaker Gideon is a graduate of George Washington University and  lives with her family in Freeport. “I’m truly humbled by this award, and I’m honored to be recognized by an organization that does so much to elect women to office. I have the privilege of serving with 48 Democratic women in the Maine House, which is the first time women have been the majority of any caucus at the State House. I’m especially honored to receive this award alongside Molly Bogart, who was named as this year’s Rising Star. Thank you to Molly and to Emerge for helping elect so many women to office.”

Molly Bogart, this year’s Rising Star, is currently serving as the Director of Government Relations for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. She has worked as a field recruiter for the Maine Migrant Education Program Downeast and in Aroostook County, as an advocate for the Maine Women’s Lobby, a regional field director for the Maine House Democratic Campaign Committee, and as a legislative aide for Speaker Gideon’s office. In 2018, Molly served as the Deputy Director for the House Democrats before continuing her Health and Human Services policy work with DHHS. Molly is a graduate of Susquehanna University, and Maine New Leadership. “Emerge shows me everyday the power of a network and that we can’t do this work alone. I’m so happy and grateful for the work Emerge does everyday for women all over our beautiful state and I’m honored to be recognized by a group for whom I have so much respect.”

There will be complimentary food and a cash bar. This is a ticketed event, but press will be granted free entry.
